Contributing to MarkUp Magazine


You can contribute to MarkUp Magazine in numerous ways, including:

a. Apply for Staff

To apply for a staff position and become a writer for MarkUp Magazine, just enter an application in the MarkUp site.

Check the available positions and continue to writer in your application. For the essay question "Why do you think you'd be good in this position", please make sure you writer a proper, well-structured essay. In answering this question, we will also be looking at your:

  • Writing style
  • Grammar and spelling
  • Qualifications
  • Other unique traits about you

Full time writers for MarkUp Magazine need to have very good English Skills, writing experience, and experience in the respective position that they are applying to.

b. Submit a Contribution

Even if you're not a staff member, you can contribute to MarkUp Magazine by sending your own articles to us! If you want to contribute to MarkUp Magazine then write your own tutorial or article and send it to us at staff@gmking.org and we'll manage it, proofread it, and contact you back!

Please note that the following cannot be contributed by non-staff members: game reviews, book reviews. If you do want to write such type of articles, then you will need to contact us before hand. Other articles such as "The Making of..." articles and development journals are accepted.

Please note that when submitting a contribution, you agree that submitted articles become the non-exclusive property of GMking and will be made available publically under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial Share-Alike 3.0.

Instead of making a one-time contribution, you could instead decide to become a full-time staff member and writer for MarkUp Magazine. This process is described in "a. Apply for Staff".

c. Provide Feedback

It is crucial for the refinement and improvement of the magazine that you continue to communicate with us. This could be done through different channels:

  • The MarkUp Forums (Register) - where you could discuss general MarkUp-related information, view the 'Development Subforum' and give suggestions on current decisions regarding the issue under development, or simply apply to staff or comment on current applications, etc.
  • GMC Topic (Reply) - The Game Maker Community topic is the main source of feedback for MarkUp Magazine. You could post your own general feedback there, or alternatively, you could tune in and comment on the feedback, opinions, suggestions, and criticisms of others.

You can also contact us at staff@gmking.org and give us your own feedback, opinion, and suggestions for MarkUp Magazine. Comment on the previous issues and tell us what you like and what you don't like so that we could improve our future issues!

Benefits of Contribution

If you contribute to MarkUp Magazine by writing an article or tutorial, you become entitled to the following:

  • A 1/4 page advertisement for every 400 words of text you write. The maximum advertisement space given is 1 full page per issue.
